What is Fluid Running?

Fluid Running class at Superior TrainingFluid Running class at Superior Training

This is not what you think!  This is not your typical aqua aerobics class or even aqua jogging – It’s Fluid Running®! Fluid Running® is a deep-water running class that gives you all the benefits of running on land – and more… without any impact! Running in the deep water challenges your cardiovascular system as well as the muscles in your legs, core and arms.  It’s an amazing full-body workout that burns 40% more calories than running on land due to the water resistance and all the additional muscles needed to do this work out.  Fitness-minded people, athletes and people trying to stay in shape or lose weight will benefit from adding Fluid Running® to their workout routine.  This non-weight bearing workout also allows most people recovering from injuries to participate.  The ability to swim is not required.  Water running flotation belts are provided.  Heart rate monitors are recommended, but not required, as well as a water bottle to keep you hydrated.  The minimum age for all classes is 18.

Come see what it can do for you!

Fluid Running Private Sessions

Each card will give you access to 5 or 10 fluid running classes of your choice at WEST Superior Training.  Find a class that fits your schedule, bring your "golden ticket" and your instructor will punch it and you will be ready to run!

Fluid Running Private and Semi-Private Coaching

Private sessions provide an opportunity to work with a certified coach one-on-one or with another individual.  The personalized attention guarantees proper Fluid Running form, as well as tailoring the workout to the individual’s fitness level and goals.  These sessions are ideal for people recovering from injuries or surgery, those who want to get stronger and faster without the negative effects of land-based workouts, or individuals who want to learn how to properly do Fluid Running prior to signing up for a group class.  One to three sessions are recommended prior to Fluid Running on your own.

*** We do require at least a 12-hour notice of cancellation before any private session. ***

Contact jennifer@fluidrunning.com to arrange a private coaching session.

Fluid Running Benefits

From the Fluid Running Site:
No Impact
Because fluid running is done in the deep part of the pool there isn’t any land weight. This significantly reduces the stress on joints, allowing people who are injured or suffer from arthritis to get the benefits of running without the stress of hard impact. Land running ground force is 3 times your actual body weight. For example, a 150 lb. runner strikes the ground with a force of 450 lbs., which can result in injury over time.

Rehabilitation
Not only does running in water allow you to continue working out, but it also helps speed up recovery times. Water pressure decreases swelling to injuries, flushes out metabolic waste, and increases blood flow by 30%, all of which lead to quicker recovery from joint and muscle injuries.

A Better Workout
While people new to fitness and older individuals can get a good workout from deep water running by working at their own pace, experienced athletes at the highest levels can also challenge themselves with deep water running. Running through water creates constant multi-directional resistance that allows you to strengthen not just your legs but your upper body and core, as well. Using proper technique and following the guidance of a certified instructor, deep water runners can burn up to 40% more calories than they would running on land.
